i've got a question, im restoring a 1970 dodge charger and i was reading on the web that you cant keep the car primered for very long because its not a good rust preventive, now, for a classic car like that, you'd obviously want a top of the line paint job, but since i have no garage, [it stays in the driveway with a car cover and tarp] what should i do to prevent it from rusting out again? should i just run it to like, earl scheib and at least have some sort of clear coat and paint there until i can save up the 3 grand or however much its gonna cost to get it top of the line painted? i hope you guys understand what im saying
so, basically, would it be OK if i sanded, bondo [when needed] pulled dents, got rid of rust, etc.. and then put a couple coats of "self etching primer" would it be OK to just drive around with that until i saved the money for a paint job? becuase i dont make 100,000 a year and i also live in the bay area of california which means everything is expensive. so am i safe to drive it with just primer? or am i screwed until i get a paint job? im hanging on my last limb. thanks
